1). Paper-cutting
With a long history, paper-cutting has always been one of
the most popular folk arts in this land. Represented by
Fujia, Fengning County, Chenshi in Qiaozhangzi of Chengde
County, Chengde paper-cutting is well-known in the country,
and the paper-cutting artists continually go out of the
country with their fine works, earn great honor and foreign
friends often come here to make purchases.
2). Tengshi Cloth Paste Painting
Tengshi Cloth Paste Painting is three-dimensional art of
painting, sculpture, paste and other traditional crafts.
Drawing the nutrition of Chinese painting, images, sculpture
and painting, as well as the other Chinese and foreign art,
it has the three-dimensional effect of oil paintings and
traditional Chinese paintings. The material is mainly silks
satins, and jinyinsi line with the help of wood, cardboard
,ornaments velvet, and sponge. The painting is a fine combination
of crafts of carving, cutting , knotting, embroidery, dyeing
, inlay , trimming, zhanhu , and decoration, composed of
materials from a few to tens of thousands. Figures, flowers,
birds, fish, insects, gods, Buddha, ghosts and monsters
on the paintings are all lifelike, fun-filled, and fascinating.
Some are graphic with relief effect, some are in the shape
of three-dimensional circular cone, which can be placed
in any way you like, really ideal embellishments in our
houses.
3). Palace Music and “Concert of Qing Palace”
With the Mountain Resort coming into use,palace music similar
to that of the capital began to appear in it. Music hall
was built on both sides of the courtyard in front of Danpo
Keswick Hall, used for performance at the ceremony. Instrumental
allocation and band personnel as well as their location
are all similar to those of Taihe Hall in Beijing. Outside
the Mountain Resort was also a music arena called “sub-
palace music”, a kind of music of unique style developed
during a hundred years from “palace music” after it got
out of the palace of “the Mountain Resort”, which is shown
in the form of “Concert of Qing Dynasty”.
4). Folk Music of Manzu
In the civil history of Changde area witch songs used to
be extremely popular which was also called“Saman Music”.
The word “Saman” comes from Tonggusi language for Chengde,
historically, used to be a place of “Manzu language”, a
branch of Tonggusi language. The remaining 3 pieces of music,
including “ A Tune in Bereavement” were included in the
recently published “Collection of the Chinese Folk Songs---Hebei
Volume” as representatives of Hebei Saman Music. Besides,
As a special place, Chengde has its folk music with unique
characteristics---- more or less influenced by “the Palace
Music” either in its folk songs or its instrumental music.
5). Dinner Dance in the Palace
“The Dinner Dance in the Palace” is the stagecraft of palace
of great national and local characteristics which was created
by cultural departments and Changde City Ballet based on
the palace music of the Mountain Resort and the folk music
in this land. It absorbed the representative music and repertoire
from Qing palace and the Mountain Resort, adapted the rich
dance vocabulary of Manzu and Mongzu, artfully repeating
the palace banquet etiquette customs and art appreciation
activities. Different types of performances such as solo
and ensemble in singing and instrument-playing, solo dance
and group dance are given in an ideal order, really fascinating
beyond description.
6). “Peace All over the Nation” and Buddhist
Culture and Art Troupe
The full-length Buddhist dance “Peace All over the Nation”,
based on the culture of Puning Temple and Buddhism, with
Chengde’s historical events as background, is mysterious
and beautiful, solemn and respectful. The music and dance
add radiance and beauty to each other, graceful and colorful,
literally enjoyable. This is the only one in China tailored
to the Buddhist Culture and Art Troupe to show the belief
freedom as well as the prosperous and happy life of the
Chinese people, unfolding a beautiful painting of a peaceful
and harmonious China. Up to now, Chengde Buddhist Culture
and Art Troupe remains the only professional one in China.
7). Mountain Resort Troupe
Mountain Resort Troupe is composed of hundreds of members
in folk music, dance, vocal music, operatic music and acrobatics.
It has a strong line-up and various ways of performance:
not only the full-length specialty of the Mountain Resort
“Welcoming Ceremony to the Entrance of the Resort”, but
also “Magnificent Gathering at Wanshuyuan” which gives us
a picture of a grand Mongolian banquet held in the Mountain
Resort during Kangqian Heyday. To meet the needs of different
audience, a number of specialties were created such as “Elegant
Palace Music of Qing Dynasty”, “Banquet Music of Qing Palace”,
“Local Conditions and Customs in Mongolian Grassland” and
“Local Conditions and Customs of Manzu”. The programs were
highly spoke of by the people of all walks of life inside
and outside China. In recent years, the troupe has participated
in many national tours of tourism promotion, visiting Japan
for 3 times, sending abroad the world history and cultural
heritage of Chengde as well as the Mountain Resort art,
publicised Chengde and Chinese civilization, and at the
same time expanded Chengde’s social influence.
8). Folk Dances
Since the beginning of the Qing Emperor Kanghsi, variety
show has become popular, including all kinds of dance show
of national characteristics of Hanzu, Manzu and Mengzu such
as: “Jumping and Stamping”( “beating ghosts” in Chinese),
“Saiweihu”(“tartar driving boats” in Chinese), “Walking
on Stilts”, “ Taiping Drums”, “Wuhu Sticks”, “Hanchuan”,
“Beige”, “Taige”, “Dances of Lions and Dragons”, which are
very rich, colorful and interesting.
